PROGRAM OVERVIEW
ACADEMICS
This Global Clinical Internship or Rotation offers qualified students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a teaching hospital in Vietnam. Over the course of a minimum of four weeks, students are integrated into clinical teams, engaging directly in patient care, diagnostics, and treatments. The internship is designed to deepen clinical skills, enhance cultural competency, and provide insight into healthcare delivery in a global setting. Students participate in regular reflective sessions and cross-disciplinary discussions to connect their clinical practice with broader global health challenges.
As capstone project, students create a digital portfolio that serves as a comprehensive record of the students’ achievements and learning throughout the program. Students gather artifacts from their internship to showcase their development and mastery of skills. The portfolio culminates in a reflective essay and a presentation, promoting self-assessment and continuous learning.
Students should have already acquired a theoretical foundation and preferably a practical skill set in their discipline. To be eligible to apply for this program, students can be enrolled in medicine, nursing, public health, and other health sciences. Enrollment is generally reserved for juniors, seniors and graduate students, or by consent of the faculty sponsor. Clinical rotations are available to final year students only. Professionals are welcome to apply as well.
Our programs are designed to follow U.S. academic culture and standards. The pace especially for the onsite experiences is generally accelerated and the workload is demanding. The U.S. grading scale of A to F is used. Students will receive a variety of assignments. They include a weekly reflective journal/blog/vlog, and a project report (INT302), and a digital portfolio culminating in a reflective essay and a presentation.
1 U.S. credit hour (~ 2 ETCS credits) per 50 hours of internship is available for eligible undergrad students via our academic school of record under a Community Field Experience. The full 4-week internship is hence worth 4 U.S. credit hours (~ 8 ETCS credits). After successful completion, you will receive a GEI transcript. Please check with your academic advisor at your home institution to confirm how many credits can be accepted for your degree program and whether the institution is willing to issue its own credits. If desirable, our school of record can issue a formal transcript for credit transfer. For this, it charges an additional US $125 per U.S. credit hour.
The language of instruction is English.
UNIQUE EXPERIENCES
Vietnam is a highly inspiring Asian leader in its commitment to sustainability and innovation.
It is also particularly rich in culture. Take an innovative walking exploration of the traditional Binh Quoi area of Ho Chi Minh City, and visit key cultural sites in the old Saigon. Learn about the Vietnam War at the Cu Chi Tunnels. Enjoy floating markets, row boat rides along small creeks to the Mekong River estuary, bike around local villages and stop at workshops for rice paper, coconut candy, and puffed-rice.
HOUSING & MEALS
The program includes 4+ weeks in Vietnam. For this time, GEI Vietnam offers different housing options that students can choose from, pending availability. These include:
