PROGRAM LOCATION: GHANA

Ghana is a dynamic West African country known for its political stability, rich cultural heritage, and strong tradition of civic engagement. Shaped by regional leadership and global connections, the country offers a compelling context for experiential learning across disciplines, where tradition and innovation coexist. For GEI participants, Ghana provides an opportunity to engage thoughtfully with local communities and institutions, gaining insight into how global systems intersect with everyday life in a contemporary African setting.

UNIQUE EXPERIENCES

The Global Clinical Internship provides students with guided exposure to healthcare delivery within Ghana's health system. Placements are structured to align with students' clinical competencies, allowing participants to engage appropriately and ethically within diverse care settings while respecting professional boundaries and patient privacy.

Students gain insight into the social, cultural, and systemic determinants of health through daily clinical engagement and observation. Working alongside local healthcare professionals, interns develop a deeper understanding of how health access, resources, and outcomes are shaped by context, policy, and community dynamics.
Ongoing mentorship and supervision are central to the program’s design. Weekly meetings with clinical supervisors and GEI faculty ensure that students receive feedback, guidance, and support as they navigate clinical environments and reflect on their evolving professional identity.

Structured reflection activities encourage students to critically examine ethics, power, and positionality in global health practice. Through journals, cohort discussions, and a final placement report, participants synthesize clinical experience with academic learning - strengthening their ability to articulate insights relevant to future healthcare training and careers.
