Payment and cancellation terms

These terms apply to payments made to the Global Engagement Institute (GEI) through this site. They form part of GEI's Terms and Conditions, together with GEI's Privacy Policy.

  • Application fee: The US $50 application fee is payable with your application and is non-refundable. It is credited to your program fee once you are accepted.
  • Deposit: On acceptance, a deposit of US $500 confirms your place in the program. The deposit counts toward your program fee and is non-refundable, except when GEI does not run the program, in which case the deposit and any other payments are refunded in full.
  • Program fee: The balance of your program fee is charged in two installments on the dates shown at enrollment, after GEI has confirmed that the program runs. Once GEI has confirmed the program, the full program fee is owed, whether paid in installments or in full.
  • Withdrawal: If you withdraw before GEI confirms the program, the deposit is retained and nothing further is charged. If you withdraw after confirmation and more than 60 days before the program start, 50 percent of the program fee is due. Within 60 days of the start, the full program fee is due. Withdrawals must be sent in writing to programs@global-engagement.org.
  • Failed payments: If an installment cannot be collected, GEI will contact you and hold your place for 10 days. A place remains confirmed only while the program fee is paid as agreed.
  • Awards: A GEI scholarship or other award is applied through an award code at enrollment and reduces the installments, not the deposit.
  • Institution-paid places: Where a partner institution pays GEI directly, the agreement with the institution governs.

Your program fee covers what the program page lists under "Included in your program fee". International airfare, visas, immunizations, personal expenses, and anything listed as not included are your own responsibility. GEI reserves the right to cancel a program for reasons of enrollment, safety, or circumstances beyond its control; the refund rule above applies.
