PROGRAM LOCATION: GHANA

Ghana is a dynamic West African country known for its political stability, rich cultural heritage, and strong tradition of civic engagement. Shaped by regional leadership and global connections, the country offers a compelling context for experiential learning across disciplines, where tradition and innovation coexist. For GEI participants, Ghana provides an opportunity to engage thoughtfully with local communities and institutions, gaining insight into how global systems intersect with everyday life in a contemporary African setting.

UNIQUE EXPERIENCES

A defining feature of the Global Custom Internship is its individualized placement model. Each internship is developed through a collaborative process that considers the student's academic preparation, skill set, and learning objectives, ensuring a meaningful and appropriate professional experience within Ghana'’s organizational landscape.

Students work directly with local host organizations, engaging in substantive tasks that reflect real workplace responsibilities. Rather than observational roles, internships emphasize active participation within professional teams, allowing students to build confidence, accountability, and applied skills while navigating organizational norms and expectations.
Throughout the program, students receive structured mentorship and support. Weekly supervisory meetings, cohort check-ins, and ongoing guidance from GEI staff help students reflect on challenges, adapt to new environments, and strengthen professional competencies in a cross-cultural context.

The internship experience is complemented by intentional reflection and academic synthesis. Through weekly reflective journals and a final placement report, students critically examine their learning, cultural experiences, and professional growth - supporting the development of global leadership skills that extend beyond the internship itself.
