YOUR DESTINATION: THAILAND

The Land of Smiles is a dynamic blend of tradition and modernity. As one of Southeast Asia’s most influential economies, Thailand has experienced rapid urbanization and technological advancement while remaining deeply rooted in its cultural heritage. The country’s bustling cities and thriving industries contrast with its rural heartlands, where Buddhist traditions and community life still shape daily experiences. Yet, balancing economic growth with social and environmental sustainability remains a key challenge for the nation’s future.

UNIQUE EXPERIENCES

Immersion in Thailand’s engineering ecosystem
Students contribute to projects in urban and rural regions of Thailand, working on technical challenges aligned with local development goals. Placement contexts may include startups, NGOs, or engineering teams tackling water, energy, or health access.

Mentorship and community integration
Thai professionals and GEI facilitators provide guidance throughout the practicum, while weekly colloquia foster peer learning and reflection. Students also form meaningful connections with colleagues, partners, and host communities.
Engaging daily life
Daily experiences—whether grabbing a bowl of khao soi, learning basic Thai phrases, or commuting through bustling city streets—offer authentic engagement with Thai culture and life.

Optional cultural activities
On weekends, students may visit Buddhist temples, explore local markets, or enjoy nature excursions such as a visit to Doi Suthep or nearby waterfalls. These optional experiences complement the practicum with rich cultural learning.
