INTERNSHIPS
Customized internship placements aligned with global public policy interests, designed in collaboration with community partners and host organizations.
Global Public Policy examines how governments, international institutions, civil society, and the media shape decisions that affect communities. Rather than studying policy at a distance, interns join organizations doing that work in Africa and Southeast Asia and contribute to it directly.
The track brings together four fields: public policy, governance and diplomacy; international development; human rights, law and peacebuilding; and journalism and media. Interns work under local supervision, produce professional outputs, and take part in structured reflection alongside their placement.

- Experiential, field-based learning: Academic content is integrated with site visits, applied projects, and reflection.
- Academic rigor & credit support: Credit-bearing programs supported by GEI’s U.S.-based school of record.
- Contribute to policy, governance, and development work in a professional setting
- Examine how governments, international institutions, and civil society interact in practice
- Work alongside local practitioners in development, advocacy, law, or media
- Produce professional outputs such as research, briefings, or communications, under supervision
- Engage with questions of ethics, reciprocity, and power in international work
Global Public Policy programs are offered in multiple countries, each providing a distinct learning context shaped by local health systems, policies, and community priorities.
- Ghana: Public administration and democratic governance in a
stable West African democracy
- Kenya: Regional policy and multilateral engagement in a major
hub for international organizations
- Rwanda: Post-conflict justice, peacebuilding, and national
development planning
- South Africa: Constitutional rights, legal advocacy, and social
policy
- Thailand: Regional development and humanitarian policy in a
Southeast Asian hub for international organizations
- Vietnam: Development policy and governance in a rapidly
changing economy
